Disconnected Data Distribution

Bringing Internet Services to Disconnected Areas of the World

Getting started with DDD

To get started with DDD, you just need to download the applications on your Android phone. Note: you cannot run the DDD Client and DDD Transport on the same phone! They will interfere with each other.

Clients and transports can exchange data over a local WiFi network created by the BundleTransport, or using USB storage devices. WiFi is generally the fastest and most convenient way to use DDD, but if you are in an area where WiFi cannot be used (due to local restrictions or WiFi signal tracking), USB is an alternative. Both WiFi and USB carry data that is encrypted and decrypted at the client and not accessible to the transports. (See security caveats in the FAQ.)

Client installation

You need to install the DDD Client app and the DDD mail app. The apps can be installed from our Download page if the client has internet connectivity.

Since clients are often in a disconnected area, the clients can download apps from transports. When using a transport, make sure that you trust the transport that is providing you the app! To install the apps over WiFi from a DDD transport, see the WiFi setup page. To install the apps using USB, see the USB setup page.
